Deglycyrrhised (DGL) Licorice Root is well utilised as a treatment for ulcers in the upper digestive tract (eg stomach). This is due to its ability to help stimulate the normal defence mechanisms that prevent ulcer formation. Deglycyrrhised Licorice Root may also help to maintain the integrity of the mucosal surfaces of the digestive tract.
Licorice contains what are known as phytoestrogenic compounds that have a weak oestrogenic activity in the body. These phytoestrogens can help to modify oestrogenic activity by binding to oestrogen receptor sites. If oestrogen levels are too high, oestrogen activity will be decreased due the weaker activity of the phytoestrogens. If oestrogen levels are too low, oestrogen activity will be increased. All standardized full potency herbs are combined with a mix of compounds with antioxidant properties to help maintain the herb’s freshness, stability and integrity.
